My family loves golf. Really, my husband and I play because
our son does. He picked up his first club when he was about 4 years old, and
after we moved to the UAE we got him into formal lessons. He now regularly
participates in tournaments and games. At first, we were just tagging along,
but it soon became evident to us that this could be something we can enjoy as a
family. There’s something about being on a golf course: the perfectly manicured
grass, the way the course all fits together, the quiet serenity. When I need to
think about something or if I’m feeling frustrated, I like to go out there and
hit a few balls. I think everyone needs a ‘thinking’ place; a haven from the
hustle and bustle of life. My husband and I often have real deep and necessary
conversations out there, not to mention the character flaws and weaknesses that show up
during a round. It’s so funny how messing up a shot can bring out the worst in
you. To say the least, it’s helped us develop more than just our swing.

This year, my son’s golf season is jam-packed. He plays
most weekends and sometimes it can be hard to find time for anything else. He
recently participated in the UAE PGA Junior tournament at the Dubai Creek Golf
Club. So, when some friends called to see where we were playing this weekend,
we agreed to meet up and have some time together before the game. As a mom, I
understand the challenges of fitting everything in. The children’s social
schedule can overtake everything at times. But, with a little planning and
effort, you can still carve out time to hang out and relax.
Dubai Creek has a wonderful 71-par, championship
golf course with a great view of the Creek. We usually play the par-3 Academy
Course which is great for beginners. It’s ideal and it doesn’t take as long as
a full 18 holes. A four-ball usually takes about and hour and a half. The
beautiful clubhouse has a picturesque presence through every hole. The roof is
designed to look like sails of the olden dhow boats that used to sail up and down
the creek. Whether you play the championship course or the academy course, you’ll
enjoy the view.

There are quite a few restaurants at the club and we ate at
the Academy Café. On the day, a Play and Dine offer was available, which meant
you could play a round on the Academy Course and enjoy a meal for 99AED. The
menu has something for everyone. I enjoyed the beet quinoa salad and my friend
enjoyed a beef burger. The café has a real relaxed and laid-back feel with
sofas that make you want to lounge just a little longer. It’s situated right
next to the putting practice greens and the first tee is a stone’s throw away.
You’re right in the action, so to speak, really taking in the golfing vibe. I
could keep an eye on Reuben from the comfort of the café.

It was such a wonderful day and Reuben played a superb round
of golf, posting a personal best. Roland took these wonderful pics of the golf course. He's always loved taking beautiful pictures and hopefully he can do more. Moments like this will never be forgotten.
Whether you’re multi-tasking occasions or taking time away from the bustle of
life, it is always worth it. For us, golf is a part of life. I’m sure many more
memories will be made. Thank you, Dubai Creek Golf Club, for hosting a great
day.
